Boat Description
Lazy Jack was built in 1947 by builder and designer Fred Whittier in the shipyard of Whittier and Lowe in Ipswich, Massachusetts. Her lines are taken from the traditions of the Fredonia fishing schooners of the 1800s.
Lazy Jack is a topsail schooner and when fully rigged can carry up to eight sails. A renowned charter boat in the 1950s, Lazy Jack sailed for 20 years from Ipswich Massachusetts to Man O'War Cay to Cuba. She carried various cargo for her master, which included passengers, arms, rum and cigars.
In October 2006, Lazy Jack began a phased restoration that will insure that this historic windjammer will be sailing strong and powerfully into the future. Although Captain Joe's vision for the Lazy Jack exceeds the time of his expected ownership, he is committed to passing forward this great schooner to her next master in a condition ready to meet the challenges of decades to come.
