Rockland Performing Arts - offering a uniquely vibrant arts scene in the Camden area
The Rockland Maine area offers a number of great venues for entertainment. The historic Strand Theatre in Rockland provides a unique entertainment experience from independent and world cinema, documentary, classic and retrospective film to live musicals and concerts, comedy shows, conferences, and other special performances. Both the Camden Opera House and the Rockport Opera House provide historic entertainment settings for live musical performances and concerts to Broadway plays, comedy headliners, and other special events. The area also supports two important entertainment enterprises, the Bay Chamber Concerts and the Camden Civic Theatre. The Bay Chamber Concerts brings classical, jazz and international artists plus world dance events to the local stage. The Camden Civic Theatre offers a full schedule of comedy, musical and dramatic stage productions at the Camden Opera House from mid- April through December. Bay Chamber Concerts - Camden, ME Founded in 1961 by brothers Andrew and Thomas Wolf, Bay Chamber Concerts features world-renowned artists. During July and August the Summer Music Festival brings classical, jazz and film events to the historic Rockport Opera House and Strand Theatre in Rockland. In the summer of 2010 Bay Chamber Concerts will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary with an exciting line-up of award-winning international artists. Throughout the rest of the year (October through May), the Performing Arts Series features classical, jazz and world music plus dance events. Concerts are held throughout the Midcoast. |

Camden Opera House - Camden, ME The exquisitely renovated, historic Camden Opera House is home to a variety of events as well as Camden's municipal offices and police station. The Opera House's multi-room facility (516-seat auditorium and three conference areas) has enabled the facility to meet the needs of a variety of productions. Local school children still shine in school plays and concerts. The Camden Civic Theatre presents a lively and varied schedule of community theatre productions throughout the year. Rockport Opera House - Rockport, ME Situated in the cozy harbor village of Rockport, the Rockport Opera House is located next to Mary Lea Park overlooking Rockport Harbor. A million-dollar renovation in 1993 has maintained the Rockport Opera House's 19th-century charm while creating a facility with 20th-century conveniences. Designed to present a variety of entertainment forms, the handicapped-accessible 400-seat auditorium boasts perfect acoustics, an antique hand-painted curtain, hand-done stenciling and a curved balcony offering wonderful views of the stage. The auditorium is a perfect performance space for concerts, recitals, plays, and other intimate performances. Strand Theatre - Rockland, ME The Historic Strand Theatre, located in downtown Rockland, Maine, has been entertaining moviegoers since 1923. Independently owned and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the theatre underwent an extensive historic restoration in 2004–2005. The Strand was updated with state-of-the-art sound and projection equipment, the interior and exterior were restored, and a new marquee was added. Rockland's only movie theatre, the Strand offers the best of independent and world cinema, documentary, classic and retrospective film. In addition, the Strand is also a performing arts center and regularly hosts live musical performances & concerts, comedy acts, stage performances, and other special events year-round. The theatre is also available for rent on a limited basis. |
